Anthills

I took a detour down a side road today in search of a short cut.  I didn’t find a short cut but I did find about half a dozen small anthills covered in ants.

You’ll have to trust me that there are ants in this picture as they are very hard to make out.  I was quite surprised to see these anthills as you don’t often see them in New Zealand, unlike places like California and Australia were they are much more common and the ants that inhabit them are much more vicious.

Bumblebee Investigates

I visited the Iris Gardens in Motukarara again today, where the irises were in fine form and very popular with the bees and bumblebees.  The bumblebee in this photo was very particular and made sure to investigate every nook and cranny of the irises it visited, getting right inside then wriggling it’s way back out again.
